FRANCESCO BEDA PAINTINGS FOR SALE & BIOGRAPHY

FRANCESCO BEDA

Italian, 1840–1900

BIOGRAPHY
'Beda completed his studies at the Venice academy under Karl von Blaas. He travelled extensively in Austria, Hungary and Croatia, painting numerous portraits, including that of the Prince of Rohan, Bishop Strosmayer. During his stay in Austria, he painted a partition screen for the Empress Elisabeth. From 1876 onwards, Beda's work betrays the influence of Meissonier. He is said to have died at his easel, palette in hand.' (Benezit, Dictionary of Artists, Paris, 2006).
