BIOGRAPHY
A student of Pierre Jules Jollivet in 1841, Gustave Boulanger continued his studies with Paul Delaroche.  In 1845, he took a trip to Algeria where he painted many different studies and landscapes. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1846 and won the prix de Rome in 1849.  Boulanger exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between the years 1848 and 1875.  He was both a professor and a member at the École des Beaux-Arts.  He also taught at the Académie Julian.  His work is included in the collections of museums throughout France.
