JAROSLAV CERMAK PAINTINGS FOR SALE & BIOGRAPHY

JAROSLAV CERMAK

Czech, 1831–1878

BIOGRAPHY
'Jaroslav Cermak studied at the Prague academy under Ruben, and at the Antwerp academy and at the Brussels academy, where he was taught by Gallait, whose style he subsequently adopted. He finally moved to Paris, where he received the guidance of Robert-Fleury. His work, depicting historical subjects and scenes from everyday life in Bohemia, was soon noticed at the Parisian exhibitions. A journey to Turkey in 1858 had a strong influence on the development of his artistic talent. In 1861 and 1868 he was awarded medals at the Salon de Paris.' (Benezit, Dictionary of Artists, Paris, 2006).
