'
Wauterus Verschuur was the pupil of P. G. van Os and C. Steffelaar. He specialised in painting horses, and rural subjects into which he very often introduced horses. He was awarded the prize called the Prix Félix Meritis in 1831 and 1832, and was a member of the academy in Amsterdam.' (Benezit, Dictionary of Artists, Paris, 2006)
