The packet ship "Joshua Bates" of Boston was built by Donald McKay for Train & Co., New York, launched in Newburyport in 1844, and weighed 620 tons. The "Joshua Bates" was the first packet of Enoch Train's White Diamond Line. The Train Line sailed between Boston and Liverpool which became one of the most important Atlantic emigrant routes from Europe to America.
