BIOGRAPHY
Émile Louis Méret was born in the 14th arrondissement in Paris, son of entrepreneur Édouard Lucien Méret and Alexandrine Pauline Pelletier. He married Marie Amable Alice Balderre in May 1904.
Méret studied with Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1904 and 1907, and at the Galerie d’Art Decré. Méret, who was a member of the group of painters known as the “12 de Paris”, joined the Société Historique du 6e arrondissement de Paris in 1931. He specialized in landscapes and cityscapes, particularly views along the Seine both in Paris and its environs. He also painted the gardens of Versailles and landscapes in Brittany. In July 1933 the city of Paris acquired his painting Le Grand-Trianon.
