LOUIS ABEL-TRUCHET
French, 1857-1918
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Versailles in 1857, Louis Abel-Truchet was a painter and an engraver. He studied with Jules Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant and began exhibiting in various Salons in 1891. He was the Treasurer and Founder of the Salon d’Automne. His work was awarded several prizes in Paris in the 1920s and in the 1940s.
Abel-Truchet is best known for his lively scenes in and around Paris. He especially enjoyed painting the fashionably dressed ladies and gentlemen in parks and cafes. With this very painterly and Impressionistic view, Truchet gives us a broader perspective of the bustling Seine and the Pont de l’Alma just beyond, the Eiffel Tower and the dome of Notre Dame.
