BIOGRAPHY
Moeller was a portrait and figure painter who was born in New York and studied with Frank Duveneck in Munich; his last years were spent in Weehawken, New Jersey.  Professor William Gerdts comments that Moeller "developed a very detailed blocky figure style, and often incorporated his portrait subjects into their settings and environments, so that his paintings appear to be genre pictures or 'informal conversation pieces.'  This made for a distinct and rather engaging style" (William H. Gerdts, Jr., Painting and Sculpture in New Jersey, New York, 1964, p. 49).
