BIOGRAPHY
"Pierre Louis Léger Vauthier was a pupil of Maxime Lalanne (1827-1886). He used subtle shading to depict the landscape of the Paris area bathed in a gentle light. He exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1874 and was a member of the Societeé des Artistes Français from 1883. He received an honorable mention in 1884, a third-place medal in 1887 and a second-place medal in 1892, as well as an honorable mention at the 1889 Exposition Universelle and a silver medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1895." (Benezit, Dictionary of Artists, Gründ, 2006).
