THEODOR BERNHARD DAHL PAINTINGS FOR SALE & BIOGRAPHY
THEODOR BERNHARD DAHL
Danish, 1886-1971
BIOGRAPHY
“In his pictures of the open Danish landscape, Theador Bernhard Dahl follows Johan Thomas Lundbye's (1818–1848) nationalist landscape tradition. Often the line and drawing aspect is emphasized at the expense of the painted and emotional aspect, and his larger figure paintings often lack a more direct interest and engagement in the actual painting challenge. In later landscape pictures is seen a tendency for simplification of the composition and a preference for clear, cool colors. Dahl sought after the idyllic in his landscapes, and his paintings continue to stand as idealized pictorial renditions of Danish nature” (Kunstindeks Danmark Weilbachs Kunstnerleksikon [Art Index Denmark, Weilbach’s Encyclopedia], translated from the original Danish).
