EMILIO SÁNCHEZ-PERRIER

BIOGRAPHY
Emilio Sánchez-Perrier studied at the school of fine arts in Seville and later Madrid. In 1871 he moved to Granada, where he befriended Mariano Fortuny. He traveled to Paris in 1879 and studied at the studios of Auguste Bolard, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Félix Ziem.

He exhibited at the National Fine Arts Society of Madrid, the Cádiz regional exhibition, where he was awarded a gold medal, and at the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving a commendation in 1886 and a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889. He was made a member of the Seville fine arts academy.

Sánchez-Perrier painted views of Paris and verdant landscapes, mainly of river views populated with small figures. He is known for his Lake with Boats, Alcazar Kitchen Garden; Winter; and Andalusia. He also produced Orientalist paintings that reveal the influence of Fortuny. His watercolours achieved rapid popularity in England.
